Stanat Model TA-215 Combination 2-High / 4-High Rolling Mill — Lab, Pilot & Specialty Production
This Stanat TA-215 laboratory rolling mill — fully refurbished by IRM — is a precision combination 2-High / 4-High machine built for environments where flexibility matters as much as repeatability, from university and national lab research programs to specialty metal manufacturers producing strip, ribbon, and foil in small to mid lot sizes. Its combination architecture lets a single machine handle two distinct rolling regimes: direct work-roll contact for breakdown passes and softer materials, then a quick changeover to backed-up 4-High geometry for harder alloys, tighter gauges, and superior flatness on thin strip and foil. For battery and energy-storage developers, fusion and defense programs, precious and refractory metal processors, and contract specialty mills, that means one capital purchase covers a much wider product envelope than a dedicated 2-High or 4-High of similar size.
Mechanically, the TA-215 is built around a rigid Stanat housing with 0.875" diameter × 6" face work rolls and 4" diameter backup rolls in high-carbon chromium alloy steel, satin finish, dual handwheels for independent or synchronized roll gap adjustment, and approximately 50,000 lbf of separating force from a 5 HP drive. A new variable-speed AC inverter has been installed for smooth, repeatable control across the full speed range. Entry and exit tables and full nip-point guarding are included. Customer-specified voltage on 3-phase power.
The machine shown is currently presented in fully IRM-refurbished condition — mechanically reconditioned, repainted in IRM finish, and ready for service. Refurbishment scope and any application-specific modifications can be confirmed at quote.
This unit serves equally well as a strip mill or dedicated foil rolling mill, supporting development or production work in copper, aluminum, nickel, titanium, stainless, refractory metals, and specialty alloys — including nitinol, amorphous ribbon, battery foils (Li, Cu, Al), and clad or laminated systems.
Optional Upgrades & Instrumentation
The TA-215 can be configured as a fully instrumented research or production mill. Available add-ons include:
Pay-off and take-up winders with adjustable tension control, sized for foil and thin-strip work — single-side or full pay-off / take-up sets for true continuous rolling
Motorized power screwdowns in place of (or alongside) standard handwheels, for faster setup, reduced operator fatigue, and the foundation for closed-loop gauge control
Heated rolls up to approximately 450°F for warm rolling of magnesium, titanium, and select aluminum alloys (limited by bearing material temper)
Load cells for real-time separating force measurement, typically sized in the 50,000–100,000 lbf range
Data acquisition package — PLC and HMI, recipe storage, and time-stamped logging of force, gap, speed, and temperature to local CSV/Excel or networked storage
Digital height indicators for precise, repeatable roll gap setting and pass-to-pass tracking
Alternative roll materials — D2 for cold rolling of harder alloys, H13 for dedicated hot work, M2 as a versatile dual-purpose option, tungsten carbide rolls for high-load applications, and chrome-plated finishes for improved release on sticky alloys
Spare roll sets — additional work and/or backup rolls for quick changeovers between alloy programs or as production-ready replacements
